General Information

Description

RING Festival 2026 at the Paris National Opera.

The Paris National Opera continues its exploration of Richard Wagner's colossal work, The Ring Cycle, directed by Calixto Bieito. Following the final scene of Das Rheingold, which sees the gods ascend to Valhalla, Die Walküre, the second part of the cycle, brings us closer to humans through the twins Sieglinde and Siegmund.
While their irrepressible and incestuous passion unleashes the wrath of Fricka, the goddess of marriage, it upsets the Valkyrie Brünnhilde, prompting her to defy her father, the god Wotan.
To express the power of human love, but also the contradictions of a god who wishes to create a free being yet subject to his own will, Richard Wagner delivers music that is by turns lyrical and sensual, ardent and heroic, as in the famous ‘Ride of the Valkyries’.

A new production of Richard Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen is always a major event for any opera house. During the 24/25, 25/26 and 26/27 seasons, the Opéra national de Paris presented a new Wagner tetralogy, entrusted to director Calixto Bieito – inaugurated with Das Rheingold in January 2025 (which made digital giants the new deities of our time), continued in 25/26 with Die Walküre in November 2025 and Siegfried in January 2026, and finally concluded with Götterdämmerung in autumn 2026 as part of the 26/27 season.

To highlight the scale of the project, the Paris Opera is reviving two complete series of this tetralogy imagined by Calixto Bieito for a ‘RING Festival’ in November 2026.

First series:

Second series:

To mark the occasion, the Paris Opera is planning a 'RING Festival 2026'. In parallel with the performances of Wagner's four operas, the Parisian institution is organising several events for attendees, including thematic conferences, introductions to the works and an exhibition about the Ring Cycle. There will also be 'gourmet breaks' during the opera intermissions, allowing attendees to fully savour the event.

The Paris Opera is offering several 'RING Passes' to enjoy the 'RING Festival 2026', including tickets for all four operas, access to conferences and exhibitions, and a six-month subscription to the Paris Opera's 'POP' digital platform, allowing you to watch the institution's productions online.
