General Information

Description

RING Festival 2026 at the Paris National Opera.

In Götterdämmerung, Siegfried bids farewell to Brünnhilde to travel the world and accomplish new feats. These will be his last: during his journey along the Rhine, he falls victim to a sinister plot hatched by Alberich and his son Hagen.
The fall of the gods is inevitable... Bringing the Ring cycle to a close with
Götterdämmerung, its most metaphysical instalment, Richard Wagner delivers music as flamboyant as the pyre on which Brünnhilde immolates herself. Emotion is not left behind, as evidenced by Siegfried's funeral march, one of the most striking orchestral passages in the score.
First performed in 1876 at the first Bayreuth Festival, the work is presented here in a production by Calixto Bieito, who is also concluding his interpretation of the Ring Cycle for the Paris Opera, which began in 2025.

A new production of Richard Wagner's The Ring of the Nibelung is always a major event for an opera house. During the 24/25, 25/26 and 26/27 seasons, the Opéra national de Paris presented a new Wagner tetralogy, entrusted to director Calixto Bieito – inaugurated with Das Rheingold in January 2025 (which made digital giants the new deities of our time), continued in 25/26 with Die Walküre in November 2025 and Siegfried in January 2026, and finally concluded with Götterdämmerung (Twilight of the Gods) in autumn 2026 as part of the 26/27 season.

To highlight the scale of the project, the Paris Opera is staging two complete cycles of this tetralogy as part of a ‘RING Festival’.

For the occasion, the Paris National Opera has devised a ‘RING 2026 Festival’. Alongside performances of four Wagner operas, the Parisian institution is also offering a range of events for festival-goers, including themed conferences and introductions to the works, an exhibition on Wagner's Ring Cycle, and gourmet breaks during the opera intermissions to allow festival-goers to fully savour the event.

To enjoy the ‘RING Festival 2026’, the Paris Opera is offering several ‘RING Passes’ including tickets for the four works of the Ring Cycle, as well as access to conferences, exhibitions and a six-month subscription to the Paris Opera's ‘POP’ digital platform, allowing users to watch the institution's productions online.
