General Information

Description

Concert.

"Born as a small opera intended to be performed privately for amusement, adored by his contemporaries, Handel's Acis and Galatea enjoyed a second life by being reworked and reorchestrated several times. Leonardo García Alarcón chose Mozart's version, which gives the myth the appearance of Arcadia. In the opera, the shepherd Acis and the nymph Galatea love each other, but she is pursued by the cyclops Polyphemus. When the latter discovers their love, he angrily kills the young Acis, which is then transformed into a river, becoming eternal through the power of love."
