Description

New production from the Lille Opera
In co-production with Opera Ballet Vlaaderen

As part of its "summer constellation," the Lille Opera presents a new production of Verdi's Otello, directed by the Hungarian director Árpád Schilling. For two decades, his productions have explored "the social upheavals of our time, particularly the dynamics of radicalization in Europe." "In opera, he brings to light the contemporary tensions at work in the great works of the repertoire and questions the existential threat posed by violent power structures and social exclusion."

In his production, Árpád Schilling portrays Otello as "the tragedy of a love shattered by discrimination. The stigmatizing gaze directed at someone perceived as a foreigner unleashes such violence that the man ultimately becomes the monster that the community projects onto him."

More information is available on the Opera's official website.
