Description

Revival of Gilbert and Sullivan's comic opera HMS Pinafore in Cal McCrystal's production.

Gilbert and Sullivan's first opera to achieve international success, HMS Pinafore is a fast-paced and colourful comic opera centred around a “maritime love triangle”: Josephine, daughter of Captain Corcoran, is torn between duty and love. Corcoran hopes to marry Josephine to the First Lord of the Admiralty, but she has her own dreams and has fallen in love with the simple sailor Ralph – and they plan to elope together...

The work displays incisive humour in a typically British atmosphere. The music of HMS Pinafore features some of Gilbert and Sullivan's most beautiful songs, and some of the most popular opera arias on stage – but also in hit television series such as The Simpsons and The West Wing.

More information is available on the Opera's official website.
