Description

An evening paying tribute to the iconic figure and career of Josephine Baker.

On 4 October 2025, the Théâtre des Champs Elysées will pay tribute to Josephine Baker, a timeless icon who made her mark on the venue with her talent almost 100 years ago to the day: on 2 October 1925, she made her debut there, and in October 2025, the theatre will dedicate an evening to her ‘to celebrate the fascinating life and career of a woman who broke down all barriers with her energy, audacity and grace’. A revue leader, singer, actress, pioneer, heroine of the Resistance and fierce civil rights activist, Josephine Baker captivated the Parisian public of her time.

The Théâtre des Champs-Elysées' Josephine Baker Gala ‘brings together several formidable artists from different disciplines’: South African soprano Pretty Yende (following her debut in the title role of Semele in February on the same stage), accompanied by young Guadeloupean soprano Luan Pommier (who sang the Paralympic anthem at the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games) and Neima Naouri.

The Orchestre National d'Île-de-France is conducted by British conductor Christopher Austin, who is particularly renowned for his contemporary repertoire.
