General Information

Description

New production by the Chorégies d'Orange 2004.

At the heart of its 2004 edition, the Chorégies d'Orange Opera Festival presents Carmen in a new production by director Jérôme Savary (then director of the Opéra-Comique), which takes advantage of the exceptional setting of the Théâtre Antique d'Orange.

The production brings together an exceptional cast: Béatrice Uria-Monzon in the title role, a role she has already sung on most of the major international opera stages, opposite Roberto Alagna's ideal Don José. Alongside them, Norah Amsellem sings Micaëla, Ludovic Tézier lends his elegance to Escamillo, Catherine Dune and Karine Deshayes as Frasquita and Mercedes, respectively, and Nicolas Cavallier as Zuniga. They are accompanied by the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Myung-Whun Chung, and the Nice - Toulon - Avignon Opera Choirs.

At the end of the evening, the audience at the Chorégies d'Orange gave a long standing ovation to the entire cast, and especially to Béatrice Uria-Monzon and Roberto Alagna.
