Held every June, Musiques en fête has become a popular event in France dedicated to classical music, kicking off the music festival season. For one evening at the Théâtre Antique d'Orange, the programme (created by Alain Duault and Pascale Dopouridis) invites curious novices and music lovers alike to rediscover great arias from operas, operettas, musicals and French songs, alternating between well-known classical hits and lesser-known works.
The 15th edition of Musiques en fête will take place on 20 June 2025 from 9 p.m. (French time) and will pay tribute to cinema. During an evening dedicated to the 'emotions and magic of the big screen', classical music and the 'most beautiful film scores' will take centre stage.
Around twenty soloists and 150 musicians
To perform this programme, Musiques en fête 2025 will bring together around twenty soloists and over 150 orchestra musicians and choir artists. As always, internationally renowned artists will perform alongside young talents. The 2025 edition promises a stellar line-up of opera singers, including regular Chorégies d'Orange performer Ermonela Jaho, Benjamin Bernheim and Sandra Hamaoui, tenors Kevin Amiel, Arturo Chacón-Cruz, Diego Godoy and Léo Vermot-Desroches, Sopranos Lucie Peyramaure and Camille Schnoor will also perform, as will Neïma Naouri, who is renowned for her love of musical theatre. Other artists include the Belgian mezzo Florine God, the baritone Tomasz Kumiega, the Georgian bass Nika Guliashvili and the pop singer Marc Lavoine, who will be joined by the 350 children of the Pop The Opéra choir.
The instrumentalists performing include pianist Alexandre Tharaud, who performed at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games; clarinettist Pierre Génisson; cellists Anastasia Kobekina and Anne Sila; and pan flute player Jeanne Gollut.
They will all be accompanied by the Orchestre National de Lyon, conducted by Ariane Matiakh, who also appeared at last year's Musiques en Fête. Other conductors include Didier Benetti, a regular at the event, as well as Pierre Bleuse, Yvan Cassar and Clément Lonca. The Maîtrise des Bouches-du-Rhône will also perform, along with the artists of the Chœur de Parme and the Chœur de l'Opéra national Montpellier Occitanie.
Hosted by Judith Chaine and Cyril Féraud, Musiques en Fête is broadcast live on French television on France 3 and on the radio on France Musique every year (the programme regularly attracts more than 1.2 million viewers). The evening will also be broadcast online free of charge on the France.tv platform. More than 8,000 spectators will also be welcomed in the stands of the Théâtre Antique d'Orange – tickets are not sold, but distributed to members of the association 'Les Amis des Chorégies d'Orange'. Let's hope that, unlike last year, the weather will be more favourable this year and that the programme can be performed in its entirety.
