The work was originally scheduled to premiere in Los Angeles in October 2024, but economic uncertainties forced the Los Angeles Opera to cancel the premiere of this opera, which ultimately received a relatively low-key premiere from 15 to 22 November 2024 at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University in Bloomington.

The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay then opened the 2025/26 season at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in a production by Bartlett Sher, running from 21 September to 11 October 2025. Following the public's enthusiasm for the work (the last performances are sold out), additional performances have been added on 17, 18, 20 and 21 February 2026, with the same cast. The Metropolitan Opera is also adding The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay to its cinema broadcast programme: the production will be shown in American and Canadian cinemas on 26 January 2026 (following a recording of the performance on 2 October).
