We called him the musician-musketeer... André-Cardinal Destouches (1672-1749) was also director of the Royal Academy of Music and composed numerous operas including the Sémiramis recreated by Les Ombres in Ambronay in 2018 and this Télémaque created in 1714 and resumed in 1730. The culmination of three years of residency by Les Ombres with Ambronay and the Baroque Music Center of Versailles, the world recreation of this Tragedy in Music is an event of this 44th edition. As is often the case with Destouches, the score is abundant, the vocals very rich and the drama particularly intense, making this opera the ideal link between Lully and Rameau.
