"A fascinating work, described as a "sublime poem of sorrow" by Vincenzo Bellini, this Stabat Mater is one of the rare pieces of sacred music to have come down to us by Alessandro Scarlatti. Evoking the Virgin Mary's pain before her son on the cross, it was apparently commissioned by the Vatican for St. Peter's Basilica. A refined stylistic mosaic, the work is carried by the warm voices of Marie Théoleyre and Rémy Brès-Feuillet."
