Description
New production from the Lille Opera
The Lille Opera has entrusted the staging of its new production of María de Buenos Aires, the tango opera by Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992), to director Giulia Giammona, an emerging figure in European musical theatre. “Her career is notably marked by the rediscovery of Surrealist female authors, as well as by the links between myths and feminist perspectives. Far from folkloric clichés, and by casting all the roles in women, she intends to give the heroine her own story, question the gendered codes of tango, and denounce the persistence of a mechanism where the idealization of the female body by men leads to sexist and sexual violence.”
