Description

Concert.

"Donizetti had, like Rossini, an important career in Paris. He created or adapted some of his masterpieces there; he was interned there when the attacks of dementia due to syphilis became more acute. Because Donizetti died mad like many of his heroines, starting with the most famous of them: Lucia di Lammermoor, according to Walter Scott, who, forcibly married, kills her husband during his wedding night and reappears in front of the guests in her bloodstained dress – the the most famous scene of madness in the entire history of opera. Created triumphantly in Naples in 1835, the work was adapted in France in 1839, with some significant changes. Twenty years after having delivered a memorable interpretation of this rare version, the forces of the Opéra de Lyon are joined by the fine flower of the new generation under the direction of Daniele Rustioni: Pene Pati, Florian Sempey and Nicolas Courjal. Lisette Oropesa, the best titular of the role of Lucia today, makes her debut in this French version and at the Festival d'Aix."
