Description

New production
Co-production with Palazzetto Bru Zane - French Romantic Music Center

"It will be the discovery of the year for the public of Téphanois. The Opéra de Saint-Étienne co-produces and brings back to life, with the Palazzetto Bru Zane, Le Tribut de Zamora by Gounod. It is the ultimate work lyric by the composer. It was well received at the first performance in 1881 at the Opéra Garnier, with the famous soprano Gabrielle Krauss. The action is set in ninth century Spain, dominated by the Moors, in the caliphate of Cordoba. The representative of the caliph, Ben-Saïd, prevents the marriage of the soldier Manoël with the beautiful Xaïma, with whom he falls in love. Victorin de Joncières, who will later compose Lancelot (a work which has also benefited from a resurrection thanks to our house ), writes in La Liberté: "Gounod's score is clear, limpid, melodious, with a great unity of style; it contains charming pages of grace and feeling, alongside pieces of rare power. »

The staging of this new production is by Gilles Rico. It will be based on the sets and costumes by Bruno de Lavenère, who notably designed the impressive set for Lancelot in 2022. On the distribution side, the public will find a regular on our stage, Jérôme Boutillier, as well as Élodie Hache, applauded in 2019 in Così fan tutte. Two young singers on the rise are to be discovered: Chloé Jacob and Léo Vermot-Desroches."
