A new production from the Aix-en-Provence Festival, premiered in 2025.

In Nantes on November 22 and 23, in Angers on November 30, and then at the Rennes Opera House from October 8 to 12, 2025.

"Francesco Cavalli was, alongside his elder Claudio Monteverdi, one of the first great geniuses of opera. In Venice in 1651, he sumptuously staged and set to music the gods and heroes of a mythology as raw as it was cruel.

The fate of the unfortunate Calisto, attendant of the goddess Diana, whose features Jupiter, always fond of disguises, adopts to seduce her, cannot fail to move us, especially when Juno, and then Diana herself, turn against the young nymph. The composer Francesco Cavalli, also deeply moved by his heroine, reserves for Calisto the most beautiful pages of a dramma per musica with contrasting moods and inexhaustible melodic imagination. Jetske Mijnssen, in her staging, delights in dismantling the pride and cynicism of the deities at work."
