General Information

Description

Revival.

The Zurich Opera is reviving Handel's Giulio Cesare in Egitto, directed by Davide Livermore and originally staged at the Monte Carlo Opera in January 2024.

Seduction and intrigue: the romance between Cleopatra and Caesar during his subjugation of Egypt ranks among the most famous love affairs in the world. With his opera based on this story, Georg Friedrich Handel achieved a sensational success. "Beauty of every kind in abundance," attested the composer’s contemporaries. Even today, the magic of this music remains undiminished. In the Opéra de Monte-Carlo production, director Davide Livermore relocates the action to a luxurious Nile cruise ship. Cecilia Bartoli sings Cleopatra, one of her signature roles.

More information is available on the Opera's official website.
