Description

The English National Opera revives Calixto Bieito's controversial production of Bizet's Carmen (first staged in 1999 at the Perelada Festival). Jamie Manton takes over as director for this revival.

Carmen is played by mezzo-soprano Niamh O'Sullivan, whose fate tragically intersects with that of Don José, played by former Harewood artist John Findon. The bullfighter Escamillo is played by Cory McGee, making his UK and role debut. They are joined by Harewood artist Ava Dodd in the role of Micaela.

This fourth revival at ENO is directed by Jamie Manton, twice nominated for Olivier Awards, in collaboration with Haruka Kuroda, director of intimacy and fight scenes. The musical direction is shared by Clelia Cafiero, following her acclaimed ENO debut in La bohème in 2024, and Olivia Clarke, former Mackerras Conducting Fellow.
