General Information

Description

The Menton Music Festival ranks among the most prestigious events in the French musical landscape. Founded in 1950, it was born of a deeply moving experience for André Böröcz: the discovery of the Parvis Saint-Michel – a setting suspended between sky and sea, whose striking beauty seemed to call out for music itself. Legend has it that while the Hungarian artist was visiting the town, he heard the sound of a violin coming from a radio on a windowsill: “It was Jascha Heifetz playing Bach’s Partita No. 2 for violin.” Driven by a desire to recreate that emotion, he conceived the idea of a music festival on the Parvis. Since then, the festival has made this Baroque, Mediterranean setting its signature, blending the intimacy of the listening experience with the grandeur of the landscape.

Over the decades, the Menton Music Festival has hosted world-class performers – including Robert Casadesus, Wilhelm Kempff, Marguerite Long, Aldo Ciccolini, Jean-Pierre Rampal, Isaac Stern, and Mstislav Rostropovitch – thereby securing Menton’s place among Europe’s great festivals.

Today, its identity is defined by a rare combination of heritage, artistic excellence, and the lyrical quality of the venue, making each edition a celebration of music in its most sensitive and radiant forms.
