Concert version.

The Opéra Orchestre national de Montpellier opens its 2026/27 season with a concert version of Médée, the only opera by Marc-Antoine Charpentier and "perhaps the greatest masterpiece of the French Baroque."

Conducted by Stéphane Fuget at the helm of the ensemble Les Épopées, the production features a cast of vocalists all taking on their roles for the first time: Canadian contralto Marie-Nicole Lemieux tackles the challenge of this extraordinary title role, opposite the young Czech tenor Petr Nekoranec who performs the role of Jason on stage for the first time. Joining them is a cast of young soloists, including mezzo-soprano Juliette Mey as Creusa, soprano Camille Poul as Nerine and Cupid, and Claire Lefilliâtre as Cleone. In the male roles, Frédéric Caton plays Creon and young bass-baritone Etienne Bazola sings Oronte. They are accompanied by the ardent voices of the Namur Chamber Choir.

Tour. Following this performance at the Opéra Comédie in Montpellier on September 22, 2026, the production will tour to the Grand Manège in Namur (Thursday, September 24), the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse (Saturday, September 26), the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris (Wednesday, September 30), and finally the Théâtre Impérial in Compiègne (Friday, October 2, 2026).
