An absolute triumph on French stages since its creation, this Faust, reimagined from a comic angle, is much more than a parody of Gounod's grand opera. Neither a copy nor a caricature, Le Petit Faust reinvents Goethe's myth with unbridled – and mischievous – imagination, using witty twists and humorous musical numbers. Whimsical and hilarious, Hervé's artistry is also expressed in delightful musical ideas and his great skill as a theatre musician. The work had not been performed on stage for a long time: Sol Espeche takes it on and revives it.

The artist continues his work, begun with Coups de Roulis, of modernising the work by offering a staging centred on the offbeat performances of the actors and interaction with the audience, evoking the television game shows of the 1980s and 1990s as a metaphor for the issues at stake in the work (destiny, chance, social criticism). The aim is to recapture Hervé's parodic and unifying spirit by questioning our relationship with entertainment and identification.
