New production.
Mathieu Jouvin, director of the Teatro Regio in Turin, is committed to rediscovering rare works. To open the 2025/26 season at his theatre, he is programming a new production of Riccardo Zandonai's Francesca da Rimini, which premiered on the same Turin stage on 19 February 1914.
The production is entrusted to director Andrea Bernard, who intends to portray Francesca as a free woman, conscious of her choices, rather than a victim, accompanied musically by conductor Andrea Battistoni. On stage, Barno Ismatullaeva sings the title role alongside Roberto Alagna as the handsome Paolo and opposite George Gagnidze as the vindictive Gianciotto.
