The story follows a Peri, a celestial creature of divine beauty, banished from paradise and in search of redemption. To return to the heavens, she must offer a supreme gift at the gates of paradise. Her adventures take her across India, Egypt, and Syria, in search of a treasure worthy of the celestial spheres. Her adventures touch on the universal, evoking sacrifice, love, and redemption.

Although Schumann described his work as inspired by the Orient, the music transcends cultural boundaries. Composed in 1843, it blends romantic melodies, rich harmonies, and sumptuous instrumentation. The originality of these performances at La Seine Musicale lies in its staging, an absolute rarity. Daniela Kerck enhances the work with a modern and poetic scenography, enhanced by Astrid Steiner's immersive videos.
