La Monnaie took on the challenge of producing a new production of the famous Wagner cycle, Der Ring des Nibelungen, spanning two seasons, starting with the Prologue: Das Rheingold. For this project, she called on two leading figures from her artistic family. The director and visual artist Romeo Castellucci goes straight to the heart of the Wagnerian myth, inviting each spectator to make their own reading of it. As for the musical interpretation of the conductor Alain Altinoglu, it gives the drama – a concept dear to Wagner – its full dimension.
